Grayton Beach State Park – Florida, Spring Break

Marty - Monday, 5 April 2010 01:30

8 hour drive including breakfast and a forced lunch. Scraped the towing harness pulling into a gas station for lunch. Repairs were done thanks to a KMart & its parking lot.

Grayton beach is nice! Old sites are nicer in terms of tree cover. New sites are nicer in terms of bath house, but no trees or privacy. New sites have waste hookups! Old site #s end at 36.

Kelly, her parents & sister were all here. Their site overlooked the lake and beach area. LOTS OF WIND! Our site was usually calm. We would rent ours again!

Destin is close – about 30 minutes to Walmart. Publix on 98 is easier; Publix near seaside is quicker but congested. Seaside was beautiful. Rent a condo here!

Beach was nice. Short with high dunes. Lots of waves and wind. Cold water! Long walk to the beach. Kids would ride their bikes and we would drive there.

Installed the new canopy. Nice! Mike Beckley had to help us understand the anchor ropes and wood. Good ‘ole Mike. We’d have many painful and frustrating camping stories to tell if it weren’t for him!

Replaced the bed rail wedge on the driver’s side. Saw a few holes int he bed covers. Need to call PECO to ask how to fix them.

Carbon monoxide detector went off on the last day while packing up. Probably due to turning off the heater and having the boy’s stuff surrounding that area.

We have the site until Sunday, but chose to leave on Saturday so Rikki could have a day of rest.

AT&T Wireless was acceptable. Verizon sucked! Went and bought a Blackberry so i could tether it to the CradlePoint. Read More

River Forks, Hall County

Marty - Friday, 20 November 2009 01:16

November 20 through November 23, 2009

We camped here for the first time.

The site (#5) was small. Could barely squeeze everything on there. The fire pit was way off to the side.

Looks like the best sites are #29, #33, #34, #11.

It rained on Sunday. We still stayed there until Monday. It’s nice camping near home. We spent a part of the day at the house after church.

The campground was nice. Lots of things for the kids to do. Great beach and good hiking. Read More

May 22, 2009 through May 30, 2009

Rented site #18. Good site, but not much privacy. Thankfully there were not a lot of people there in the middle of the week. It was almost like having the entire park to ourselves!

We spent Saturday and Sunday in Augusta for Counts’ and Tori’s birthday. It was like two camping trips!

We met Kelly, Mike and Kelly’s parents there. By chance they were camped right next to us. Good food & fun, just too little time with them. They left on Tuesday.

Rikki had to work Tuesday and Wednesday, and it rained most of the week. That was a drag, but it was very relaxing.

We also had the Meadow’s over for an evening & the kids camped overnight with us. Fun!

Also, Derek, Matt and Marty oared a dock float around the tip of the island. That was a lot of work.

We also had some aggressive squirrels eat INTO our bins. Note to self: Keep bread locked in the back of the truck!

After the trip, Rikki and I organized the entire camper. Vito had lots of extras (and junk!). Now we feel like it’s finally our camper! Read More

April 17 through 20, 2009

Good site. BIG spot next to swings, field and bathroom. Across from lake.

Marty was sick on Thursday night but slowly got better on Friday.

Brantley Smallwood & Cason Sturdevant stayed with us. Sarah spent the night at the Sturdevant’s on Friday and Deb Marciniac’s on Saturday.

We set up a big tent for the boys.

Good weather although it stormed on Sunday and Sunday night. Marty dried the screens and vinyl by hand.

Used the bathroom for the first time. Clean up needed badly.

Marty did major organizing & cleaning on Monday. Broke down the site all by himself.

Installed the CradlePoint with Internet via a Verizon USB card. AWESOME! Read More
