Horseback riding

Sarah - Saturday, 3 July 2010 01:10

Our campsite is right next to a horse stable. On Thursday we went to the horses and mules to get ready to ride them. Then we got on them and started riding! The ride was pretty long. We saw a lot of trees and plants. My horse’s name is R.B. His name stands for rubber belly because you can kick him and kick him and he won’t go. Derek’s mule’s name is Pistol. Matt’s mule’s name P.K. It stands for pretty kind. Mom’s horse’s name is Q. Dad’s horse’s name is P.Q. Pictures of me on my horse.

Pistol farted a lot!!! P.K. liked to eat a lot!!! R.B found a big clob of grass at the last minute and would not go away from it so I had to slap his butt! I was surprised that R.B did not go off the trail!!! He must have been trained. Pictures of the family on their horses Read More

First day camping in Williams, AZ

Marty - Thursday, 1 July 2010 02:07

What a lazy day today was! I think we were all pooped. Or maybe just knowing that we would be in one place for a while has settled in our minds. Needless to say, we were quite content to sit at the campsite all day, and not get in the car once! But we still had fun: sleeping late, sitting in the sun, television, playing ball out front, long walks around the campground, eating grilled cheese & ham. Awesome. The biggest excitement today was nursing Derek to health – he had some kind of stomach bug and had two bouts of nausea. Finally, after “letting it loose,” he felt better. He probably won’t appreciate me saying this, but he is very dramatic, even in his sickness! Oh, I almost forgot – we saw the craziest squirrels today. They have much bigger ears than we have seen and love to chase each other around trees. They looked like tree climbing rabbits! One of them (we think a female) had ears that looked like feathers from a turkey. Pretty interesting.

We also captured some video footage of one of them eating a nut. Several times the squirrel tried to bury it in the ground. But just after the digging started, it decided to grab it again and start chewing away. Quite funny. It must have been a tasty nut!

Ok – so if the squirrel was the highlight, you probably think we must have really had a boring day… PERFECT! Read More
